First met Dave in Ramey AFB PR. He was a first class, I was a SN. The year was 1961. Dave was the photo PO at that time and one incident I remember well was a material inspection and the Capt was inspecting the photo lab, I was the recorder. There were a number of jugs of chemicals on the shelf and the Capt was asking Dave what they were. He was saying things like developer, photo wash, and etc. The Capt pointed to a large jug and asked Dave what was in that jug. Dave said "Vodka, Capt". The Capt laughed and later I asked Dave what was really in the jug, and he said "Vodka". One of many incidents I remember from my days in the system.
Was stationed with Dave in Hatteras in the late 60s. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew him. Joan and I send our condolences to his family and will be including him in our prayers. Frog
I remember being stationed with chief Dittler in 1970 at Cape Hatteras. If memory serves me correctly he was living at base housing with his wife. One of my first assignments at Hatteras was cleaning the BEQ common areas, as I recall the base housing was behind the BEQ I would frequently see the Chief and his wife take their little dog out in the back yard area to do it's duty.
At work I remember him as a very professional and detail oriented person, RIP Chief.
I served with Dave in Argentia in the mid 60s. Learned a lot from him and really liked the guy.
Last saw him in the Winter of 86 when I was on a trip to Shelburne. One of the girls threw a party and Dave and Barbara came. Had a great time which will be my memory.

Was with Dave in Iceland 1966. He would drive the financial people crazy because when he got his check
he would just throw it in dresser drawer unopened. When he needed $$$ he would then open one and cash it!
Dave Dittler was one of a kind. Argentia, 1966-1970 Circa. His Ability to Analyze the impossible and tease the Senior Staff about arrival times of certain contacts was an art. Chief Dittler met me at the airport in 1966 when I reported aboard from Grand Turk. Instead of taking me to the barracks, he took out to the NAVFAC. Kef was in the middle of OKEAN '66 (or whatever they called it back then) and he thought I'd like to see what I was getting into. He escorted me into the display room, and I just stood there with my mouth open. All those arrays, all those vernier displays (which GT did not have) and it seemed like every beam had something going on. I was amazed!
