Belatedly, we learn of Dan's death in 2018. He would have been 81 last year.
I remember Dan with the greatest professional respect. He frequently was ONI's on-site rep in Norway
where he called some extremely difficult and vastly significant events, and was never wrong. Several
of his contributions startled and decomposed Rickover and company.
Sad to hear about Dan. Dan was a great friend who taught me a lot on Grand Turk in 1957. I thought of him many times throughout the years. Met him in DC in the early 70's and we recalled our fun times on GT.
When I reported to Coos Bay in June of 1966 from "O" school I was placed in Dan's watch section. I was an E6 and was assigned as a reader. Dan Sherman was a total professional. He always took time to explain and pass his knowledge to his crew. Dan was very demanding of us but also on himself. I was an honor to serve with Dan and I am grateful for the time I spent with him. RIP
