Some Cemeteries Have a Policy You Might Want to Check Out
While arranging to have my ashes sent by the Funeral Establishment direct to Norway to be
scattered in the Norwegian Sea off Andoya, I was informed that some cemeteries will not
permit you to have a death date placed on an existing stone if you are not buried there.
Further, I was informed that many Funeral Establishments not only want an Obit but will
automatically send a death notice to local paper. I put s stop to both.
I also know of a case in which a family wished to have ashes scattered on a very large inland
lake the deceased was fond of. They found they had to gain approval from all state and
local governments that faced on the lake as well as local water authorities.
So, all those concerned walked out to the end of a long pier at night and scattered the ashes,
and no one was the wiser.
