Talked to Linda this morning. Fred finally lost the long fight with a host of medical problems and passed last night.

Fred was a great friend and golf partner and while I'm sad he's gone, his quality of life has not been there for quite a while.

Fred was one of the “gray-hairs” from the early days of SOSUS. His primary love was SURTASS and he was instrumental in making it a success. But most of all Fred was a good friend that loved to fish. He will surely be missed by the other “gray hairs”. Rest in peace my friend. – Ed Smock

I knew Fred but not as well as some of you. Nevertheless, he was a household name in our system and will be missed by many. I hope his family has some relief in knowing the other side offers peace.
