Re: OTCM Richard Hoffman

I can only echo what John Vogt said and also offer my prayers for Rick. I only served with him at Kef but always remember that he was professional and in a very positive mood.

He gave me his dog named Tiger and I wondered where the name came from. Rick said to just wait and see. Turns out the dog was anything but a Tiger. We both laughed at that. I wish him the best on his journey to the next life.

Re: OTCM Richard Hoffman

This is very sad. Rick and I go back to COSL in the 73-75 timeframe, when he was an OT3 in my watch section. I attended his wedding in Maryland during that tour. We both went to Kef afterwards and ended up in the Analysis Division together. We lived in the same off base apartment building there and car pooled in our VW’s, with little heat or defrosters. We sent out a Foxtrot Relay together one weekend day and got stranded in a snow drift on the way back and thought we were goners. I last saw Rick at either a change of command or retirement ceremony at Dam Neck. We have so much history and it’s very difficult to hear of his demise.
Rick, may God receive you with open arms and reward you for being a good man and dedicated servant to your country. We’ll see you again on the other side, my friend.

Re: OTCM Richard Hoffman

I am devastated to hear this news. He trained me as a watch officer and later served as my watch coordinator at Brawdy. A wonderful man. I will miss him.

Re: OTCM Richard Hoffman

Sad that we are losing another outstanding shipmate, but for Rick the journey is just starting. No more suffering and pain, and meeting his old friends who have gone before, he is about to report aboard a great new command and see all that he has only heard of before. Praying for healing for his family and friends. Remember him in the best times and keep him close in your hearts.

Re: OTCM Richard Hoffman

Robin,

Thank you for the update on Rick. I'm very sorry to hear this and my prayers are with him in this final chapter of an exceptional career and life.

I received word from Ricks wife Janice that he is in his final stage of life. He fought the good fight but will soon be going home to God. I will provide further details as Janice lets me know. Prayers for Rick, a true professional and outstanding human being.
