Re: Jerry Satterfield

Amen Randy! I never had the honor of serving with Barry but know of the name and it is always sad to see another of our shipmates gone. I recently looked at our in memorium page and was staggered by the number of names on it that I either knew by reputation or that I was stationed with. We always seem to say good things about these folks upon their passing but rarely before they do. So, I'm going to start doing that the best I can. I'll start with you Randy. You were the finest officer I ever had the privilege to work for and I feel strongly that you and I made a great team as OPSO and Ops LCPO. Always "doing the right thing". Know that I punched all the right buttons and did things above and beyond, I am certain that having you in my corner was hugely instrumental in my making Master Chief. You are and always have been a great friend, Husband to Chris and father to Rachel, Kelly and Randy. Keep using that sonar equation and God Bless!

Re: Jerry Satterfield

John, that was too kind and very much appreciated. As far as you making Master Chief, you did the work and all I did was document it. I’ll send you an email. God bless you and your family.

Re: Jerry Satterfield

Bill... Another loss that saddens us all. Jerry and I worked together on several system projects through the years. My sincere condolences to family and friends. Will see you again topside. Rick

Re: Jerry Satterfield

Jerry, rest your oars shipmate. We have the watch. Rest in peace.

Re: Jerry Satterfield

This is sad news! I signed contracts to be an OT with great electronics scores and a suggestion that electronics could happen after my first tour. During boot camp the rate split and I landed on the analysis side of the house. Jerry was my first watch officer, and I really lucked out. He took the time to explain that staying ahead of quals was the best thing I could do, so I did. After talking with some of the M's I dropped a chit to cross rate. My sup initialed it (Thanks Bobby Ray!), but the chief took great pleasure in disapproving it out of hand. Jerry took the time to look up my ASVAB scores and over-rode the chief. 11 Weeks later I left for A school to become an M.

Just about everything good in my career followed getting electronics training - even after the rating was erased. His understated but thorough leadership in that single event was the absolute key in my career. I had the opportunity to work for him when he was at COSP on some special projects, and he was genuinely please to see me working in maintenance. It was an my honor to serve an officer with his level of integrity. Thanks just doesn't measure up but I'll always be grateful. Farewell and following seas sir!
