During this 70th IUSS Reunion time, I would just like to mention the names of some unforgettable shipmates that were either great System mentors or watch buddies when I was a STG/OT over 50 years ago. Some were career Navy and some weren't so I didn't include rates as those changed over time, and many are living while a few have sadly passed.
NAVFACKEF: Robert VanAlstine, Malcolm Pope, Al Maultsby, Pete Diaz, Mike Desmond, Micky Kimbrell, Denny Conrad, Jack Visser, and watch officer LT Whiting.
COSL: Frank Harwood, Werner Miller, Karl Kunchak, Lloyd Bancroft, Dick Whetstone, Brian Lukach, Ed Haney, Terry Clary, Jerry Frateschi, Bob Laducer, Harvey Robke, and again Robert VanAlstine and Pete Diaz.
There were two COSL watch officers with whom I served, LTjg Robert Harrison and LTjg Ronald Blue, and I have wondered what became of them after leaving active service in 1972. In fact, illuminating my desk right now is a beautiful lamp that LTjg Harrison gave to me when he left Norfolk in 72. Please update me if you know anything about Mr. Harrison and Mr. Blue.
There were others, but the little DAC operator in my brain erased too many old data tapes!
Congratulations to all on this IUSS Caesar 70th Anniversary,
Bill Turner, former OT2 (USN 1968-1972)
