Nowe Miasto to become Poland's Hollywood

Nowe Miasto to become Poland's Hollywood

Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński has expressed his full support for an agreement signed yesterday that will see the construction of an extensive Hollywood-style movie studio complex near the city Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą.

467 hectares of what was previously a military airport has been donated by the state, while the construction of the studios will be financed with EU funds. "The initial cost of launching the complex is estimated to be EUR100 million," said Jacek Bromski, the president of the Association of Polish Filmmakers (SFP). The studio complex will employ 150-200 full time workers, and between 1,000-1,500 temporary workers during production. Warsaw, Łódź, Bolimów and the outskirts of Nasielsk were also considered for the project, however, according to Bromski, Nowe Miasto was chosen as it is surrounded by forests and has no chimneys or high voltage lines - perfect for creating different types of scenes. Construction of the studio complex is expected to be completed in two years. (Dziennik, p. 10; Puls Biznesu, p. 10) A.K.

Another treat from the EU piggybank. Is anyone here familiar with Nowe Miasto?

Re: Nowe Miasto to become Poland's Hollywood

It's a really beautiful little place perched on the side of a hill, with a ruined Palace on top. I hope they don't spoil it, though it screams out for a tourist industry. Near Warsaw too. The reason it isn't better known, or even a second Kazimierz Dolny (just about pretty enough) is logistics. No rail station, bad winding country roads, no infrastructure.

Beautiful place, strange choice. I'll try and post a photo.

Please do, I'm interested.

Re: Nowe Miasto to become Poland's Hollywood

No really nice photos of the view of the town from the South, which is the most dramatic, but I found these online. A bit dissapointing really, because it's a pretty place. There's a view of the centre on the town website http://www.nowemiasto.pl/index.php?lan=en

Less than 4000 people live there.

The Palace. Right on top of the hill overlooking the town. Used to belong to the Padniewski family, whoever they were/are.

Probably good-for-nothings like the rest of the European nobility (and the untitled American aristocracy too, for that matter).

Thanks Jon.

It is an interesting choice indeed
