Euro minimum wage?

MEPs are arguing in a new report that there should be a single European minimum wage set at the current EU average of E600 (zł.2,308) per month, plus a reduction in working hours in all member states.

The Polish minimum wage is currently at zł.936.

"reduction in working hours in all member states"

Don't you Europeans ever work??

Jesus, ask someone to put in 60hrs+ in PL or France and they think you are crazy.

From my experience, Austrians are the only EU country where people dont mind busting their ass.

As far as the minimum wage, how about letting the markets decide. That's how capitalism SHOULD work, instead of having some socialist in Brussels telling you how much to pay.

Any thoughts??

Re: Euro minimum wage?

The preposed amount would be a joke in Poland.
I chose not to expand in Poland as after paying ZUS and Tax for the employee it was not worth the bother.

Many small firms have the same problem. lots of schools and companies only employ students 'no ZUS' to keep costs down. as soon as the person graduates they start their own company and bill the employer, otherwise the are made redundent.

Euro zone is not equel and won't be for a very long time, that is why Brits go to middle East to work, Poles come here, Russians go to Poland. Get's us all mixing, keeping us all happy

There is also no way they would police the system in most countries. Unemployment would go up as companies in poorer countries struggled to pay workers. And as you know very well, companies invest in poorer places like Poland only because labour is cheap, no other reason.

Agreed. Another advantage for Poland is a huge domestic market and ready EU access. Good point as far as ZUS. ZUS calculations have to be overhauled, the problem is that Poland has been overflowing with direct foreign investment and EU money over the last two years and PiS are a bunch of idiots.

Change is imminent. It has to happen.

Re: Euro minimum wage?

Many here see me as some 'Anti Poland' maniac. I love Poland and just find it Very very sad to see it going down the toilet. They are so reliant on EU and foreign investment but have a bunch of idiots running everything, investers are not stupid, it will stop, Poles with any IQ are leaving the sinking ship.
Pis is more concerned tracking down old Communists 'as recomended by 'Radio Maryja', picking out the Jews 'as recomended by 'Radio Maryja' and stopping any gay thoughts 'as recomended by 'Radio Maryja'.
The extreamists are running the country. I just get so angry when people think IT IS ALL PERFECT!

It is all just sad, Poland came so far. For what?

Re: Euro minimum wage?

I sold my share in my Polish corp to an Estonian investment group at the beginning of the year. I miss being there day-to-day. And I do think that unless the current government takes an entirely different direction, Poland will not move forward and they will waste an amazing opportunity they never had in modern history.

Unfortunately, half of Poles are more interested in witch hunts than substance and too many just don’t get it. Fn Vietnamese come to Poland to set up shops and they leave in droves to do manual labor in England. That mentality will take a generation to change.

Re: Euro minimum wage?

Can't see a minimum wage working for the whole EU. Poland for one depends on its low salaries to attract investment.

Indians and Pakis are now on their way in their thousands . Short-term thinking by Poland.

Re: Euro minimum wage?

When Kaczinski says on TV. we will get Chinese to build in Poland as they are cheap, you just know the country is doomed.
If any other foreign minister said that they would be asked to resign.

Re: Euro minimum wage?

A mate of mine worked with a bright young secretary a few years back ... called Fotyga.

Now she's the foreign minister. Oh the high calibre of staff the brother K have gathered around them.
