My girlfriend sends money back for home improvements. Her parents' house in Poland recently had a new roof, courtesy of the UK's economy .

My brother-in-law (virtually unemployable in Poland!) and now packing meat for Morrissons supermarkets in Scotland is doing very nicely. He like most Uk-based Poles I know spends most of his spare cash in Poland. Recent purchases (all bought on his last visit to Poland): digital camera (with essential Polish menu), laptop computer (with essential Polish Windows) and an old used Mercedes from Germany (registered in Poland, so he doesn't have to pay UK road tax, buy much more expensive UK motor insurance, or go through an UK MOT in Scotland!).

He drove back to Scotland recently with a car full of equally essential Polish beer, vodka, and convenience food.
