Poland flea market closure worries Vietnamese vendors


Thousands of Vietnamese traders in an outdoor market in the Polish
capital Warsaw are anxiously awaiting eviction after the government
decided to clear the site for the 2012 European football

Thought to be one of the largest flea markets in Europe, it has
thousands of shops and kiosks in and outside the stadium, which was
built in 1955.

It is also considered a mini Vietnam in Warsaw, with 5,000 to 10,000
Vietnamese trading in jewelry, footwear, clothes, and food for the
last 20 years.

The government plans to move the market to another site.

A Vietnamese who has been living in Poland for many years said the
move would also affect Poles who made up 60-70 percent of the

Many of the Polish vendors have protested against the relocation
plan since the new site is too far away from the city downtown.

That person also said that many Vietnamese traders had recently
moved out of the market to other places run by Vietnamese, Chinese,
or Turkish traders.

The place is a real eye-sore, good news it is going to be honest.
No longer will we hear the cry of 'dvd, musika, programy, porno?' Oh it will be missed so much. where will we be able to buy passports, driving licences, guns and Russian army night vision goggles?
