Poland annual child tax break up to $400

Poland annual child tax break up to $400

WARSAW, Poland, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Poland’s parliament passed a law raising parents’ annual tax break to $400 per child beginning with the 2006 income tax filings.

Jacek Dominik, Poland's deputy finance minister, said the new tax break will apply mainly to better-off families that have an annual income of $10,800, Polish Radio reported Thursday.

Under the amendment to the personal income tax bill, parents will be allowed to deduct $400 per child.

Polish Finance Minister Zyta Gilowska said only a small group of rich Poles will benefit from the amendment, which she described as a mistake that happen during a political crisis.

The amount passed by the parliament is much larger than the government had planned, the radio report said.

Earlier this week, the parliament passed an amendment to the labor bill extending maternity leaves and increasing family allowance payments to $200 for each child born.

Amid a collapsing ruling government coalition of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the Polish parliament is to dissolve itself Friday to pave the pave for early parliamentary elections in the fall.

Better-off? This is suuposed to be the average income for a Pole, isn't it?
