Live longer

An English doctor specialises in calculating lifespans. After testing his hypotheses against real data and making a few adjustments, he came up with the following for living longer:

If you do this...you can gain this...

Get married - Seven years for a man, two for a woman

Moderate cardiovascular exercise (eg, running for 30 minutes, five days a week) - Two to four years

Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day - Three years

Increase the amount of Omega-3 (almonds, oily fish, etc) you eat - Three years

Have sex every day - Eight years

Give up smoking - Six years

Meditate for 20 minutes a day - One year

Keep a pet - One year

Do brain exercises - Five years

Chat to friends - Three to four years

Sleep for eight hours a night - Six years

(At this rate I'll live until I'm fifty!)
