Sergeant J Frantisek and Flying Officer Witold Urbanowicz

I just came across the stories of these two pilots who joined the RAF - one Czech, the other Polish.
Great men, top aces.

Re: Sergeant J Frantisek and Flying Officer Witold Urbanowicz

A critical stage in the development of US fighter pilot tactics was played by Witold Urbanowicz (born in Poland) and Franciszek Gabryszewski (born in the US). The American Army Air Corps was acutely aware that, as it had hardly existed at all one year earlier, it needed to develop an entire protocol of tactics and training. Because of Urbanowicz and Gabrzyszewski the US abandoned teaching the RAF methods especially the “Vic” formation and followed instead the Polish evolution from flying pairs to “finger four” formation.
