Re: Beer prices set to rise as Polish lager sales soar 250% in Britain

But almost all Polish beers are headache-inducing chemical-filled muck. I suspect the sales in UK are almost entirely Polish people buying it. That or novelty value.

I was in Zielona Góra at the weekend and found a really good microbrewery called Haust. Their beers would be worth exporting (and there's something similar from near Poznań) but Żywiec, Tyskie, Okocim, warka etc are truly nasty.

And too strong.

Yes but they taste nicer than some of the chemically watered down versions available on draught in pubs. From what I remember some are quite rough but there was one I quite liked. Maybe zywiec but not sure. I'm sure they vary by batch. These days I don't drink but I used to like hoegaarden. Aren't belgian beers supposed to be the best?

Agreed.

I was there with a friend who teaches German and he told me it means something like 'hoist' (as in hoist a glass to the lips.

ZG used to be Gruneberg and still produces German-style wine.

Haust do a Belgian style and a British style, but there others are also good. The one from near Poznań (can't remember where, maybe Września or thereabouts) was even better. They sell it bottled too which Haust don't.
