EU seeks to increase car prices by EUR 3000

To curb CO2 emissions, of course.

The EU Commission has laid out plans to increase the costs of driving cars which are large producers of carbon dioxide. The plans would create a four-year phase-in period from 2012 for fines on manufacturers whose fleets exceed an average of 120 g/km of CO2. The proposed system of fines linked to exhaust pollution will hit Germany hardest and has brought howls of protest from Angela Merkel on behalf of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

7 of the 27 strong Commission are reported to be opposed to the proposal - incl. German Commissioner Gunter Verheugen.

Re: EU seeks to increase car prices by EUR 3000

So when will people acknowledge that the carbon lie has gone far enough? What will be next? CO2 taxes on beer, champagne and soda?
