Polish Forest Mushrooms

I'm planning our next trip to western Poland.

One thing we would like to do is to pick some wild mushrooms to use later. I have some questions.

When is the best time of year to find edible Polish mushrooms in the forest?

Do any of our members pick them?

Are mushrooms easy to find?

How do you dry them?

Are mushrooms ever pickled?

Re: Polish Forest Mushrooms

When it's wet but not frosty.

Re: Polish Forest Mushrooms

In the Autumn late sept oct when weather has been damp but not frosty

You can dry them in a box in an airing cupboard or put a string through them and hang them up in the kitchen

yes they can be pickled but it's an acquired taste

Mushrooms are not always easy to find and you have to know which ones are poisonous

Re: Polish Forest Mushrooms

You can find mushrooms all year round, but, as Ania says September/October is a good time for Borowik mushrooms. Borowiki are probably the most popular wild mushroom.

They're pretty difficult to find even in autumn, and many people will be up early looking for the same as you.

Book a place on a mushroom picking tour if you want to be sure about which mushrooms to pick.
