Turning back the clock is impossible

Restitution is a tax imposed by the rich on the poor.

Poland didn't ask to be raped by the Nazis and Bolsheviks. Restitution should also be given to the people who lost relations, who lost education and employment prospects.

Except it can't. But along comes someone who's ever so clever and says, "Poland's rich now - look at their economic growth. They can afford it." Sorry - the first priority of people living in Poland is to look after number 1. You can't simply stop the economy for an entire year and put all wrongs right.

Now, if you'd asked the US not to go to war in Iraq, they could have donated enough dosh to sort the whole restitution thing out. But they prefer to kill Arabs instead of doing something constructive. Anyway, they had to create a need for a new Marshall Plan. And shouldn't Poland get restitution for the Bolsheviks refusing Marshall Aid all those years ago?

Re: Turning back the clock is impossible

I've said all along that they need to draw a line under this. Yes it is all to do with the increase in property prices in Poland.

Perhaps Poland can have its share of the Marshall plan now.....

Watch your mouth.

My youngest brother is a Marine now serving in Iraq.

Disagree with the war all your want but dont disrespect those kids who are serving their country.

Fn mutt.

Re: Turning back the clock is impossible

Isn't the major component of war killing people? And since the population of Iraq are largely Arabs, it's mostly Arabs who've been killed. And for what exactly?

Re: Turning back the clock is impossible

“Isn't the major component of war killing people?”
The major component of war is denying your adversary the option of action detrimental to you.

“And for what exactly?”
To alter the Mid-East paradigm, which for over 50 years, was stalemated in a cycle of low-grade war which periodically erupted into full war; all the while spinning off terrorism and conflict affecting the entire world.

“And since the population of Iraq are largely Arabs, it's mostly Arabs who've been killed.”
As opposed to the dead Kurds, Farsi and others from the prior years of peace?

When the Marshall Plan was inaugurated Poland accepted the offer of aid. That decision was reversed on the instructions of the Soviets shortly after. Those funds were then redistributed amongst the Western European countries.

In a very real manner the Euro aid going to Poland today is the interest of the U.S. aid forgone by Poland.
