Pre-school care in Poland

State nursery schools (kindergarten) - generally good and cost PLN 300 a month. Problem - too few places.

Private - PLN 900 a month - generally poor quality, sometimes desperately so.

All this is cashing in on parents having kids later in life (grandma is too old or incapacitated) and people moving away from their home area to find work.

Re: Pre-school care in Poland

Most Poles we knew had the granny doing childcare during the day. Most were in their 50s or 60s.

Re: Pre-school care in Poland

The times are a-changing.
People are having kids later and there's a general drift to the cities - hence a lot of people without the extended family back-up.
You can see this at All Saints - general exodus from Warsaw.
