Choice of school in Poland

It's wacky, but choosing an ambitious middle school (junior high) for your child could BOTH improve her educational ability AND harm her educational chances long term.

Confused? So was I.

Well, here goes.

Senior high takes you to the matura school leaving exams so it's vital you get into a good one. The entry criteria are essentially: exam results on leaving junior high PLUS your school report marks from the teachers in your junior high.

Now, here's the rub - the worse the general educational level in your junior high, the better your chance of getting higher marks. D'oh! The best junior highs give you the worst marks, thereby shooting everybody in the foot.

Less is more!

Therein the importance of standardized testing with aggregate results posted for schools.

Between SAT and ACT scores being posted it is difficult to hide if a school is substandard in the United States.
