As result of Defoor family bringing their issue to light, Kay Vargas (974-5722) advised Larie on July 5, 2005 that neighborhood cruises will be increased for our neighborhood. When we are aware of increased visibility of these officers, let’s call Kay and let her know that we notice and appreciate their efforts. If you see Officer Vargas cruising the neighborhood and have an opportunity to speak to her, let’s show our appreciation for APD service to our neighborhood. When we have a opportunity, we will include an image of her business card on the revised NPENA security page Do not hesitate to call Officer Vargas whenever there is suspicion of an intruder in the neighborhood. Officer Vargas also mentioned that Dale Cooper (974-5552) has been out of sevice for several months due to injury.
The following are e-mail messages reporting three separate incidences of recent intruder in neighborhood

Notice that both of the following reports indicate a single perpetuator that was caught in an act or behaving suspiciously:
The first two reports were from Maria Olivares and the second from Nancy DeFoor
Both of these reports have been posted our web page forum http://www.main.org/northpark/index.html#forum
It seems appropriate to consolidate the these reports and pass them on the neighborhood E-mail distribution list since we need wide distribution of these incidents to improve neighborhood security. We cannot rely entirely on e-mail distribution, but it seems to me that we need Block Captains to contact their groups and advise households to be aware of these reports. We believe that these incidents may be on the board meeting agenda that is scheduled for July 26th. If you have any comments or suggestions, please return your comments by reply or contact current NPENA president. David Nuhn, President ( 834-4166) email David Nuhn: dnuhn@austin.rr.com
Date: Fri, 10 Jun 2005 11:17:54 -0700 (PDT) From: "Maria Olivares" Subject: attempted break in
I live at 1101 Rebbeca Drive. Last (Thursday, 6/9) night between 8:45 & 9:00 pm we had an attempted break in at the house that has contract pending. My son was stopping by and he saw a gray Ford Explorer taking off. I think, since the driver was in a Capital Metro sedan, the person attempting to break in at the house for sale thought it was a police car, and it took off fleeing down Rebbeca. My son talked with the police, and they said a man knocked on the door and put his foot to stop the elderly lady from closing the door and attempted to force his way in.
I would like to let the neighborhood to be on alert in case this might happened again. My son did not see the man. He just got a glimpse of the fleeing older gray Ford Explorer. I would like to meet some of my neighbors and get their numbers. I admit I have lived here 8+ years do not know anyone except my neighbor across the street Stan. I would like to start maybe joining in the neighborhood watch with everyone else to help keep our neighborhood safe. This was a white male college age. I tried to let everyone know this last night but the email did not work for David Nunn. Thanks, Maria
From: "Patrick DeFoor" (North Bend) Subject: a man walking in the neighborhood Sunday Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2005 01:12:04 -0500
Pat was working on the engine of our son’s car Sunday afternoon. The car was sitting half in/half out of the garage. (We have a side entrance garage and Pat could not be seen from the street.) A strange man walked up almost into the garage. He didn’t see Jim sitting in the car. Jim got out of the car and asked the man what he wanted. His reply was, “ Nothing.” He went on to say what a nice car it was. (It really is a very old car.) Jim asked him again what he wanted. “ Nothing.” Jim told him he’d better leave. The man left and walked west on North Bend into the neighborhood. Just wanted everyone to know. Don’t leave your garage doors up; and don’t be in the garage by yourself where you can hear someone walk up. I think we may talk to the neighbors about trimming their hedges.
P.S.: Maria Olivaries reported that her daughter’s radio was stolen out of the driveway sometime at night or early morning, just a couple of days after the attempted break in at 1101 Rebecca Drive. On Thursday 6/30, as Larie Amsler was walking through the neighborhood and talking to neighbors about the above intrusions, our next-door neighbor described recent theft from his garage. He now keeps his garage doors closed, which is good advice for everyone!
We will include links to home security issues, including where to find mailbox sensors and other devices, when neighborhood security page is updated.
