The best answer to this question is "whichever" logs are available to you. But cedar is a pain to work especially if you are allergic to the dust. Stick with nice straight logs such as pine and Douglas Fir. I have a great source for both ponderosa pine and Douglas Fir with its orange strong heart wood that looks fantastic when this wood is exposed in notches etc. Both are great and can be shipped right to your site.
