Distance schools?

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have heard of a school called Allied Health Institute, and if so, is it legit? It's an actual school, but you can take the Medical Assistant class, online, then do your externship in your hometown. It says you're eligible to become certified/registered, upon successful graduation. ?

Re: Distance schools?

Well, I HAVE NOT heard of it... That doesn't mean it's NOT accredited either.... Try to find out if they have a connection or accredation from the AAMA.

I DON'T think thats your best bet though. I mean, one of the most vital aspects of going to a school in PERSON is the clinical aspect. How are you going to learn how to do a venipuncture? or take a blood pressure reading without hands on experience? Sure, your externship site will PROBABLY be willing to help you in those areas but, it would KILL me if I tried to learn how to draw blood on a patient rather than a fellow classmate.

Before you do ANYTHING, just make sure you know what you're getting into.

Are You Still In School? yes

Are You Working? yes

Re: Distance schools?

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Well, I start a Phlebotomy class, in a week, so I'll know how to do venipunctures... Also, my sis-in-law is a CNA, so she can make sure I'm doing the vitals correctly... I misread the program, though... You do all the book work, online, then you take the clinical part of it, at your local school, which I checked into, and there's a tech school that will let me take individual courses of the med assistant class... So, it sounds good, but I'm waiting to hear back from Allied, first, before doing anything.

Good advice; thanks again!
