I live in Oklahoma and I'm thinking about going to school to become a medical assistant. The school that offers it is a online school and they offer a certificate program and an associate degree program in it. I really don't want to work the back office where you handle patients, I'd rather do front office (which is kinda like the customer/patient service part of a hospital or clinic). What I was wondering is if I will still have to take the test to become certified after I obtain my associate degree or will a degree knock out having to take a test to become certified?

It really depends on where you work, the administrative aspect of medical assisting in the office I worked in was really receptionist work and no one even went to school, they either had past experiences or were trained on the job. I would look around at some local Dr offices and see if what they require before you spend any money on school...
