Need help!

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I have posted, but I really need some input. I am doing my externship at an orthopedic office and most of the people are great there. My problem is that I can't seem to do anything right with this one person. She has been very nice and patient with me, but we just do not (for lack of words) click. She makes me so nervous that I make stupid mistakes! I don't know what to do. I know she is not going to give me a good evaluation. Also, she waits until the middle of the externship to inform me that I am not asking the correct questions when I bring a patient back to the examining room. Will someone please tell me what kind of questions I am supposed to ask since I evidently don't know! Thanks

Re: Need help!

What questions you ask are going to vary, depending basically on what your doc wants you to ask....

As far as the situation with your co-worker: You said she's really nice and patient with you but then you said she makes you so nervous you can't do anything right. Why does she make you so nervous? And you are right. Unless this person just started observing the way you room pts, she should have said something from the get-go. Do you know if you're rooming the pts the same way the other girls in the office do?

Re: Need help!

Hello,

Yes I am rooming them the same way. The reason I know this is because when I go to help another doctor, everything is great, no complaints. I have watched how each MA rooms a patient and I do it the same way. I don't know what is going on. The other MA says I am doing great, so who knows what the problem is. I just do not understand why this has become an issue half-way through the externship. I try to get along with everyone and I didn't think I had a problem. In this office we do from the neck to the toes. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Need help!

Sebring,

Sorry to hear you are having torment over this crock of crap.

I too did my externship in an orthopedic clinic. Key word "externship," if you aren't doing something right it is their responsibility to correct you.

My first job was in an Orthopedic practice. Very different from the first Orthopedic clinic. Many things were the same or similar, but they had a different way of doing things.

I formed lists of stuff not to forget in my notebook.

My NP list:
1 Med list
2 Serious illnesses
3 Surgeries
4 Hospitalizations
5 Fx ever?
6 Allergies

My OP/reCheck list:
1 Med list changes/review
2 How have they been, improvements, setbacks
3 Allergy changes/review

If it had been a while since the Old Pt had been in or if they had a new problem I used the New Pt list.

I hope this helps.
