Many medical assistant instructors ask their students to conduct an interview with medical assistants already working in the field. It is mostly to teach them to overcome shyness, and hesitation to speak to someone they don't know about a specific subject. It prepares you not only to deal with patients (which initially are strangers), but also to network with people in your field, and trains your ability to communicate and listen well.
