How do I go about finding my own externship site?

Hello, im new to the site and I've been reading up on some of the questions and statements people have been making. I started MA classes 6 months ago and I am wondering how do I go about finding a good externship site on my own before the time comes? I live in VA and its hard trying to find a job anywhere, even volunteer is pretty scarce in the area I live in. Anyone have some advice for me... I would truly appreciate it!

Your Professional Title/Credentials: MA

Are You Still In School? yes

Are You Working? yes, however, not in the medical field.

Re: How do I go about finding my own externship site?

Does you school not help you find an externship site? I would think that would be part of the course!

At any rate, if you have to find your own, you might want to start with your own doctor, or a doctor you're familliar with somewhat. You may have to go door-to-door to find someone to take you.

Can you ask your instructor for help?
