I have the opposite problem. I am certified, but having difficulty finding a job because I lack the experience.

Don't ya feel like you can't win for losing, and once you do get a job will it be worth a flip?I have found over the years for new medical assistants it usually means taking a not so good position and staying there for a couple of years just to have some experience under your belt ,so keep that in mind and good luck.
