how come so low?

i just got a job at a family practice its a single doctor practice, its full time 45 hrs (5 hrs saturday) but the pay is minimum wage because the doctor says its all he can afford, i have 1 year of medical assistant experience jobs are very scarce right now but i feel I deserve more than a kid at Mcdoanlds. after 6 months ill ask for a raise but right now im at his mercy,

its just so hard to get motivated at this price

any ideas?
