Hiring a MA

Okay, this is not a job ad, yet. But I wanted some direction in how to hire a great MA.

I'm starting a brand new regional headache clinic and I need to hire one super-MA. This means a MA who has great ambition of eventually becoming the office manager. Experience is not as important as being very smart, hard worker and with a desire to grow professionally. I will start to advertise in about a month or so.

So, my question is what is the best way to find such a person? Do I go local MA programs and inquire? Advertise in the paper? Is a forum like this a good place to start?

Re: Hiring a MA

Hello Mike, How are tonight? Great I hope! This is the first time I ever heard of a possible job opening on this forum. Nothing wrong with that. Where do you plan to set up your clinic? It sounds like an interesting position. I'm a NCMA, I have over 20 years in the Medical field. I hope all the best with your new business, and take care.

North Puget Sound.

So where do MAs go to job hunt? Paper classifieds? Journals? Craig's list?

Re: Hiring a MA

Hi Mike, This forum is a good place to get started. People will give their input, Like I'm about too! Some good web sites I have been to are as follows: career builders.com, and indeed.com. You might want to visit some of the local schools in your area, they have some pretty talented people there. Just leave some fliers there with their career development person. They can give you some good advice who their best students are. There are some seasoned MA's out there too needing work and would jump at the chance to go to work. I hope this has helped. Good luck...

Re: Hiring a MA

Are you willing to hire a male MA?

Re: Hiring a MA

Some people are not? That doesn't even sound legal, to discriminate based on gender?

Re: Hiring a MA

Yes, it is against some rule/law someplace, we had a post here a while back proving that laws are to keep honest people honest. The person posted a request for a position in a family practice setting and actually posted that men need not apply.

The only things I can not do in our office is be an escort for the male providers and the male providers and staff, yep that is me, have to leave the building for the papathon they hold once every year. Yay, day off without pay!!

unfortunally i still see it, i remember that post and its still happening "we dont know how our pts will be comfortable with a male ma" see, u can sue but u wont get a job out of it and it costs money, but i feel if enough people (men AND women) complain it may halp.

i will continute to fight for that gender bias the other thing I feel must be tackled now is the massive ammounts of MA schools popping up EVERYWHERE!!! daytime tv is chalk full of these diploma mills. to many people with IMO worthless diplomas and no jobs, this is also y some doctors offer minimum wage, to much labor force out there if u wont do it for 7.00 someone else will, sad.

and I'm not being negative i think these issuses can be tackled positivaly
