Questions

Hello. I am trying to get into a Certified Medical Assistant program but am being required to ask current Medical Assistants questions, or "informational interviews". When I call medical clinics, of course they are all too busy. Can anybody here help me?
Question
#1: Your first name, job title? Company name (if willing to provide)?
#2: Do you know if your company is hiring?
#3: How many positions for Medical Assistants does your company have?
#4: Is certification required? Are there any other requirements?
#5: What is your typical day like? Duties?

If anybody could help me, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you for your time.

Re: Questions

#1: Your first name, job title? Company name (if willing to provide)? Jeff, Medical Assistant, SCHC
#2: Do you know if your company is hiring? Yes, I know, they are not.
#3: How many positions for Medical Assistants does your company have? 4
#4: Is certification required? Are there any other requirements? Certification/Registration used to not be required, not they will not hire someone who isn't. Other requirements, there is a back door for getting in.
#5: What is your typical day like? Duties? Check the schedule, collect and organize the paper charts for the day, fire up the exam room PCs, make sure the rooms are ready for patients, turn on our noise machine, turn on the A1C machines and run any controls for our POL, start rooming patients and prepping charts, make sure I have all the reports or chart notes from other places needed for the visits we expect that day, give all immunizations needed, set up and help with procedures(read as minor surgeries and stuff), clean up from procedures, call in prescriptions, perform ECG/EKGs, obtain prior authorizations for patents to see specialists, send out referrals to other offices, answer phone questions, make sure my provider is on time as well as eats and pees, run the sterilizer and sometimes laundry, stock rooms and order things to replace stock and a dozen other things I can't even remember. Some days I also have to support pediatric doctors. Those days I have to sign in to the state web site and compare their shot records with ours to see if kids need vaccines. Assorted other duties as directed by my boss and bothering building maintenance, the front desk, and my coworkers. This is the crib notes version and not everything but it ought to get you started.

Re: Questions

Yes, thank you. It concerns me that everybody is saying that their company is not hiring, just a sign of the times, I guess. It's probably true for just about any field though? We all have to pursue SOMETHING and hope for the best, huh? I appreciate the honesty regarding job duties because there are a lot of duties that one doesn't consider when they first research a field. One should be realistic and informed. Thanks again.
....I may have to do a person-to-person interview, to pass the requirement (it's not an "assignment", it's to show an interest in the position, just to get into the program). However, I contacted several clinics and the staff says they are "too busy", which I fully understand. Therefore, I am very grateful for this forum. It helps a lot! Good luck to the students, potential students, job-seekers, and current employees! :o)
