Re: Phlebotomy test tubes

Looks like you got it! You just want the basics. Just also keep in mind that sometimes there are some color tops used that are "lab or in-house" specific. So ask your supervisor for their preferences once you get there. It's also a great way to introduce yourself, show sincere interest and professionalism. "Before I get started, I'd like to know whether you are using certain in-house or lab specific preferred collectin tubes for certain tests. Is there a list of tube top colors I can refer to?" That's all you have to say. I bet that will make a big impression. I wonder how many ask this before-hand.

Re: Phlebotomy test tubes

What about the green, gray, dark blue tubes?
According to a phlebotomy site, they go in this order:
yellow-blood cultures, SPS sterile
Lt. Blue-buffered sodium citrate
Red/Tiger Top-gel separator tube
Green-heparin and light green-sodium or lithium with or without separators.
Lavender (EDTA
Pink, white, royal blue (EDTA)
Gray-Na flouride/potassium oxalate
Dark Blue-( FDP)
I hope this is helpful!
