Sterile gown and gloving

Has anyone had to put on sterile gloves without pushing your hands through the sterile gown? Is this done in any office? I was told that it only happens in the surgery area or ER. And, when I learned it in school, we did not do sterile gown and gloving this way.

Yes, that is new to me also. You mean put on sterile gloves first and THEN putting on the sterile gown??? We were taught to put on the gown first and gloves last.

In thinking through what you have posted, I thought that (if I understood you correctly, that you are being asked to put on your sterile gloves and then push your gloved hands through the sleeves of the sterile gown) perhaps the rationale behind this is that the gown is deemed to be sterile, thus, your gloved hands would not touch anything unclean. It seems the rationale and assumption is the sterile-to-sterile rule when gloving first and then gowning. However, and again! That's not how I was taught.

Here is a website you might want to check.

Hope that helps.
