Choosing between potential job offers

How do you choose between two attractive job offers? This is a good problem to have but the angst is making me think. Here is my situation:

One MA position is at a hospital. 26 doctors (residents included) family practice facility. The position is going to start in the front end and then get cross trained on the clinical end. *Great benefits package, I'm interested in becoming an RN they have tuition assistance and encourage professional growth. The office culture is family oriented, its very challenging because you're working with an urban population. The pay is good, but the benefits seal the deal. M-F day shift.

Second MA position is wonderful but quite the opposite. One doctor family practice/ homeopathic medicine. The doctor is a doll! I have no experience so she hesitated but my cover letter convinced her to call me. Once I met her she loved my energy, and now they're willing to train me. I would be the only MA in a busy environment. The pay is good, the office culture is close knit. Only 3 employees with me included. 4 day M-F work week full-time, day shift.

I'm just thinking which is better. Then I remind myself: TO THINE OWNSELF BE TRUE!

Re: Choosing between potential job offers

You mention the first position is pro continuing education, is the second? How will taking each affect your future.

IMO, take the opportunity to get where you see them being most helpful in 5 years or for your longer term goals.

Good luck

Re: Choosing between potential job offers

Hi Jeff,
How are you? Thanks for responding! I know your reasoning for choosing option one. That's exactly where my thoughts are: my future. I am just pleasantly overwhelmed with these possibilities, because just two weeks ago I was just applying. Keep in mind I graduated 6 years ago and never worked as an MA. It's funny what happens when you have a quarter life crisis. Life is just beginning, I'm all smiles.

Re: Choosing between potential job offers

I have been let go, with 500 other good people from my previous life and even though my current position seems great, I have no delusions that any job is temporary.

Where do you see yourself in 3 years, or 5-10? Where do you want to be? Even if you have a really good position, what happens if one provider leaves?

We recently had a situation. One person in the office got hired, they were like a sour grape, the whole office was infected with the sour poop. When they were finally let go, after 2-3 long weeks, the folks who work in that area are back to smiling and cheerful. This is how they were before. My point is, even a wonderful work situation can go bad in-a-hurry with a little change. This is a huge issue for most folks.
