There are many study guides available for the test. I took the test after having spent seveal years in the military as a medic. I missed only 1 question - an adminisrative one concering Medicare. It took me less than 40 minutes to complete the test which was computer based. I did this at a ProMetric testing center and has my test results immeditely. I scored a 99%.

Get one of the study guides and take the pre-test. Concentrate on studying the questions you missed. (no Need to spend time studying what you already know). Then take the post test. Again, concentrate on what you know. When you can score 80% on the post test you are ready to sit for the exam. I would not call the test "hard" but it is "comprehensive." This means you need a good knowledge of both clinical and administrative skills. Pay particular attention to coding basics and Medicare. Most of the people I know that are taking this exam are clinical assistants and fall down a little in the administrative area.

Get a good review of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology. I also had to identify some basic surgical instruments you would encounter in the doc's office. Know your EKG leads placement, vital signs ranges, autoclave requirements (so many PSI for so many minutes). It's all in the review manuals.

I will pull out the review manual I used and get this info to you. It's stored up in the attic somewhere.

I finally stopped procrastinating and just took the dang test. I mean I finished my externship in June, and have been working ever since! But it was so easy to say that I don't have time to take it and put it off.

But whew!! I took it today on the computer down in Pueblo, and passed! I got a 99%. I don't know how the thing is scored, I wish I could have seen how many and which ones I got wrong, but who cares, I passed!!!!

You need to contact AMT first. Their website is http://www.amt1.com. You also need to contact your school for certain papers to be signed off on.
The exams are done on computers at certain centers. You will get papers in the mail telling you where to go.
Some schools will have the test,on paper, at their sites but it's up to them to get the ball rolling on that. All they need is an RMA proctor.

The RMA test is not that bad. I've been an MA for 20 years. The 200 questions took me less than a minute each and I finished in about 50 minutes total. Study hard but don't sweat over it. I teach Medical Assisting and all my students who have taken the exam have passed with flying colors.

I have to say i just took the test last week right when i got done with capstone class and i passed thank god!!!, there were a lot of questions about insurance and many on the heart and medical term, i practiced the test online.. i googled medical assistant free practice test and the tests showed up, there are 4. phlebotomy test, med term test and 1 and 2 general question tests..it was kinda hard i wont lie but what might be seem hard for one may not be for another, but if one studies they should do fine.. my thought process is study til you cant study anymore and just keep going with it. its 210 questioned test and one has to score a 70 or better.. i hope this helps you and good luck :-)
