SOMEONE Please Ease My Mind!

I am starting to wonder about being a M.A.
I have been reading this forum, and alot of CMA's and other's put down the pay of a M.A. I know I will not start out at a rich man's salary, but I would like to know, could me and my son live COMFORTABLE as me being a M.A.? I live in Georgia, but I am thinking of moving to FLA. after I get a little experience in it. I just would like to hear someone say that they make a pretty penny, even if they had to work 10 years to get that much. Or where is the highest priced state (salary)?
Thanks, suzanne

Re: SOMEONE Please Ease My Mind!

I am at 15 an hour in New York, I have been offered more to take the position of Head MA, but I ended up declining, way to much administrative paper pushing. Not what I went back to school for. I have already done enough of that in this life time.
You wont get rich doing this, but it is rewarding. I work in Peds and if I can help one little one feel better about having to get a throat culture or getting a vaccine, then I had a good day.

I did hear that Florida has a very high rate of pay. Hopefully someone else has some information on that state.

Hope it all works out for you.

Re: SOMEONE Please Ease My Mind!

according to salary wizard, FL MA pay is as following:

LOWEST 10%-$25,395 MEDIAN-$27,727 _HIGHEST 10%-$30,645

Re: SOMEONE Please Ease My Mind!

I think for the most part the pay correlates with the cost of living. I'm in PA and my pay is terrible (8.75 an hour as a starting MA) but across the state near Philly the rate is a good bit higher (I think around 14.00 an hour) but so is the cost of living.

I have heard the same about FLA, but again, that may fluctuate according to where you are in FLA, city v.s. burbs, specialty, etc.
