I am starting school soon to be a Medical Assistant. I have beed working in the Mental Health Field for the Last 5 yrs and do Massage Therapy on the Side. But after some research decided that Medical Assisting might be something i really might enjoy (not as in depth as nursing, but still a versatile position in the medical field). So my main question is, To those that currently practice or have in the past..what do you enjoy about your jobs? Do you find it to be rewarding? And what would you consider to be the downside of this career? Just curious. I always like the feedback of those currently in the field.

The best thing about working in the medical field is that the results are tangable. You can see the difference you are making in your patients' lives. And that truely touches the heart.

For me, if your in a busy practice the day goes fast -in a slow practice it drags on and on. I like the adrellin rush of a booked schedule, 3 walk ins and a unplanned minor surgery. I like knowing I can anticipate the Dr. requests.

I hate being called a nurse, I'm an M.A. - I can answer the phone, verify Ins, draw blood and book the Dr. personal appt's - all things that most RN's won't do)

I like learning new therapies and techniques, watching how treatment changes.

Helping and caring those are the gravy that get you through the awful and the ugly (which you see a lot of too). It rewarding, challanging, heartbreaking, fustrating - it a job.

Chil- that's why I work urgent care. You never know what you are going to get. Heart attacks, broken bones, ear infections, foreign bodies, sutures etc.. it keeps you on your toes and keeps the job fun! :)
