Foreign Medical School Graduate as Medical Assistant

Good Afternoon,

Was wondering is anyone else is in the same boat that I am...

I am a med school grad, from the "Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara", in Mexico, had started a Residency program in Mexico but thought things over and decided to return to the US and get licensed (Board Certified) and residency here, which is a little longer process for Foriegn Medical School Graduates.

In the mean time, while studying & waiting for Board dates, I would like to work somewhere in the medical field, instead of doing something that has nothing to do with medicine, (to pay for living costs).

I recently went to a health care job fair, and was told to persue a job or even certification as a MA.

My question is, would this be possible with my credentials?

thanks for any info!

Michael

Re: Foreign Medical School Graduate as Medical Assistant

I am currently at the cituation as a foreign medical assistant. It's hard to get job if college is not accreditied, but you may be quilified for RMA license.Different criteria here. There are some kind of agencies which can grant reg. no for MA's based on the some credits(even earned out of the US), but it will be very, very difficult to find job with so kind of certification, because there is USA OBRA law which protects patient's rights and OBRA states that healthcare staff must finish accreditied school in the US in order to work in this field.
I was a nurse in Uzb. and I got RMA number from not so popular agency in the US.
I had to study for CNA program in NJ.The best idea to go to get MA certificate here.
Write me a letter and I can give you some phone number, which may be helpful.
