Things pt's say

I thought it would be interesting to find out what the most interesting, funny or annoying thing you have been asked by a patient.

For me, I had a patient one time ask "Do I need to bring anything to my post-op appt" I said No, mama. The patient then said "well Dr.--- told me to bring my ct's in when I come for my post-op. I wanted to say well if he told you to bring them in, why are you even asking me??

Are You Still In School? no

Are You Working? yes

Hi h2005!

Thanks for posting your amusing anecdote... we already had a bunch of similar contributions, but then someone felt that it wasn't funny to make fun of patients, and the topic died out (I guess people then hesitated to post?).

Nevertheless, funny things do happen! It's not to insult or make fun of anybody. We all say or do the darndest things. Not just patients, but we do it to them, too, I am sure.

Re: Things pt's say

And for clarification, I did not mean sarcastic comments, or making fun of them, I meant said something that for some strange reason just didn't come out right, and we could all laugh about it later, including the patient.

I can think of a number of awkward moments in the medical office that were funny, and laughter was shared, on both sides. One in particular involved myself, a patient that came in for an ear lavage routine, and due to my own clumsiness with this (darn) ear lavage device, not only I, but the patient walked away not only wet, but with the giggles as well.

I am sure my colleagues thought I looked like a wet poodle, and probably, so did the patient.

I am wondering what he might have said to HIS colleagues, or family. LOL.

Re: Things pt's say

Our old tool for getting the cerumen out of an ear had a bad o-ring. What I'm trying to say is I can relate to taking a shower doing that job. recently I took it to the hardware store, and a 60 cent o-ring latter, it works like a dream.
