Why are people so rude???

Does anyone else think that some nurses are rude to MAs, why do they do stuff like that?? A friend of mine, called and told me that she was talking to a nurse at the office she works in, and when she told the nurse that she learned how to do IVs she said the nurse burst out laughing and said," I would never let an MA do an IV on me, I would rather lay there and die,They'll kill me anyway" I was apalled when I heard this,That is totally unprofessional. I have had nurses say pretty rude things to me about being an MA as well. Has anyone else, had a run in with a rude nurse or doctor, and how did you handle it?? Just curious!!

I think it is just people with different personalities, not nurses in general. You are always going to have people that rub you the wrong way, are agressive, defensive, and have poor communication techniques.
Being an LPN, we are not even liscenced to start IV's, so I would question that as well. I wasn't taught until the RN program. It is extended training beyond passing boards. Just responsing to the original comment that was made.

I totally agree with Tracy who believes these are people with different personalities, not nurses in general. This actucally goes for ALL people, as Tracy puts it so well:

"You are always going to have people that rub you the wrong way, are agressive, defensive, and have poor communication techniques."

Under the right circumstances, and with the right pressue, I happen to be one of them. Often, it also depends on the surrounding area where I am at the moment. At the horse barn, where I stable my horse, I am much more likely to say tomething without thinking first. After all, it's more relaxed among horses and horse people. Some of the hard-core riders actually don't give a darn what others think. They just say it as it is, and can laugh best about their own (dumb) jokes. LOL.

However, a professional setting, we all should wear our "professional jacket" and face --- not riding chaps and spurs. That's the rule!!!
