Supporter Comments - Part 6

Here follows yet more comments that have been sent to Keep the North Shore Country. We grow stronger every day.

I lived in Kawela Bay many, many years ago with my grandma until she died..I have been living in Las Vegas for 2 years now, but I do keep up with news from home.

I visited Hawaii a couple of years ago, and my least favorite part of the trip was the comercialism in Honolulu. Nature's beauty should not be tampered with.

The North Shore is one of the most beautiful places I have ever experienced, and I wish more people could appreciate the glory of its nature without opting out for commercial gain.

As a child growing up on the CA coast I always dreamed of going to the Northshore. I am now 42 yrs old & recently vacationed there with my family. It was everything I imagined it would be. I had an almost spiritual feeling sitting on Rocky Points. I can't imagine what will happen to the rural character of the North Shore if they succeed in building the condominiums. Although the North Shore is not my home, I have experienced a feeling from visiting it that I hope my grandchildren & their children will get to experience someday. Please KEEP THE COUNTRY..COUNTRY!!!

Shame on Trutle Bay for rejecting the recommendations of the SHPD. Shame on Turtle Bay for the continuing destruction of the last stretch of undeveloped coast on the North Shore. As a mainland resident and former customer of Turtle Bay, I will pass on the word that mainland tourists should not stay at Turtle Bay, and should not support Turtle Bay's continuing destruction of the beauty of the North Shore. Do the right thing, Turtle Bay!

I always like going to NS. We use to hitch hike to see the waves when We were kids in Wimanello. If Turtle Bay expands that will destoy NS. I seen it happen on the Big Island.

We plan on moving to the North Shore in a year and our biggest reason was the laid back atmosphere and small town feel. We do not want developers to come in and change that, the North Shore is beautiful just the way it is.

The North Shore is a beautiful stretch of coast, which should be protected and preserved from development. Hawaii's native species are already in danger from invasive species and need to be protected from further human impact! I fully support Keep the North Shore Country!

I adore the North Shore, and would like to see it stay as it is.

I've seen your ad in the "surfing" magizine and i think it's awesome what you guys are doin over there let us know your progress!

Fight on! Keep the country country, its time these 'developers' pack their bags and leave our island alone.

These beautiful habitats need to be kept beautiful and without being paved and stocked with thousands of people at a hotel.

I was born and raised on this side of the island, and my family's roots go back for generations. The Laie we live in now is vastly different from the Laie I lived in as a young child, and I'm only 21 years old! I want to raise my children here, the way I was raised, but not if this place is going to become Waikiki #2! Why do these people insist on turning our beautiful islands into a commercial vacation destination? It's so sad.

Along with surfing, the "country" part of the North Shore is one of the main attractions for tourism. Tourism is a very important part of the North Shore's economy. The landscape is one of the main reasons why people visit the North Shore. If the North Shore was not country, people would choose to go spend their money somewhere else. By developing the North Shore you would be suppporting global warming, the destruction of the North Shore's beauty and cause local residents to lose earnings due to decreased tourism.

I love the North Shore of Oahu and would hate seeing hotels built there. I'll be moving to West Oahu for college soon and don't want anything to change. Keep up the hard work.

I have been coming to the N. Shore for a few months each season for the last 15 or so winters. It is important to me and many others that the N. Shore remains un tainted by mass tourisim. You have my whole hearted support for this campaign. good luck.

I've had the priviledge of visiting the North Shore twice. Even with all of the natural beauty, the characteristic that is most appealing is the distinctly different culture that is found there. I hope and pray that the encroachment of 'socieity' is held at bay so that I have an opportunity to return to the Country.

Building out in the country will just create another Waikiki. Plus the traffic will be unbearable. We live in the country, because it IS country...not much industrialiam, traffic. It's pure. We want to keep it that way at all costs.

My wife and i went to the North Shore for our Honeymoon, we loved everything about it. We also were in Honolulu, it was nice, but it was too crazy. The attraction to the north shore is it being country. Let's keep it that way.

Re: Supporter Comments - Part 6

Day traffic from surfers and other visitors residing outside the north shore cause the traffic jams. Private capital investment will bring road improvements, year-round customers to north shore businesses, and badly needed vacacation and residential condos to the north shore.

These will be wonderful projects that will share the North shore with the world and not the selfish few that are hoarding it for themselves.

Re: Supporter Comments - Part 6

I agree with Albert. The right developers will work to see that the changes are not so drastic and possibly afford everyone to live and work in the North Shore.
Not all that live in the North Shore is against it. Perception is what driving the people to the hype that keeping it country is the way to go. you can have both. A balance. Its too bad that the hearing isnt in town with a full page blab. Instead it was kept pretty quite...Just check out some of the State properties and tell me that its a great thing. no jobs will create high crime. Regardless of the lds temple and BYU-hawaii. My car got broken into many of times in Haleiwa and the North Shore so just give it up. The traffic wouldnt be so bad if there were more places to stay in North Shore and IF people didn't have to go into town to work.
Most of the Against crowd are transplants. They got the beach properties and $$$$ and don't want to look bad so they say lets save this and that...what they mean is how can they profit from this. They own the shops and eating areas so God forbid.
Look what the state has done with Waimea Falls. Great job!
