Obituary for Connie Linkous, WHS Class of 1934

Conner Hall Linkous, 93, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Friends Homes West in Greensboro, N.C., where she resided for eight years. Memorial services will be held at Friends Homes West at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 and at the First United Methodist Church in Welch, W.Va. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009. The family will receive friends after each service. Inurnment will follow the service in Welch at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, W.Va. at 3:00 p.m.Mrs. Linkous was born in Welch, West Virginia, to Dr. Walter Conner Hall and Maude McClure Hall on December 29, 1915. She was a graduate of Welch High School and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was a devoted English teacher in McDowell County, in the southern West Virginia coal fields. She married Dr. Otis E. Linkous, Jr., and had three children. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Welch and a member of the DAR. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed summer visits to the North Carolina coast with her family. Mrs. Linkous was preceded in death by her husband and by her sisters Gladys Blakely and May Hall Parker. Surviving are her children Otis E. Linkous, III WHS class of '61 , and wife Mary Lou of Springfield, Va.; Martha L. Turner WHS '66 and husband Harrison of Greensboro; and Nancy L Hatfield WHS '68 and husband Richard of Greensboro; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test, PO Box 29524, Greensboro, NC 27429 or to the First United Methodist Church, 125 Virginia Avenue, Welch, WV 24801. Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Funeral Home in Greensboro is assisting the family in Greensboro and Fanning Funeral is assisting in Welch, W.Va.
