Thanks for posting these for me Alan. I received an email from Homer Hickam with an interesting bit of info. he shared regarding the Welch Veterans Day Parade film/video. Here's what Homer wrote:
"Bob, interesting short clip of the Coalwood float where the boys reenacted the Iwo Jima flag raising. I wrote about that in The Coalwood Way. My brother Jim was one of the reenactors and my mom and all the Coalwood women worked hard on the float.
Great film clips...in color too. Wonderful memories of days when Welch and McDowell County were bustling with people, energy, and community pride. In the 1950's I watched every one of those parades, and then marched in several of them in the 1960's. The County Centennial celebration in 1958 was one of the peak moments in bringing people, talent, and creativity together at one of the best of times in local history.
