It's because you have a lazy web site administrator who apparently doesn't take time to make sure all the bells and whistles and links are always working properly on all the WHS Alumni web pages.
Try again and let me know if you continue to have this same problem.
I have the same problem, sometimes it will over ride the Maroon Wave site upwards of a dozen times before you can actually stay on the Maroon Wave site. Irritating and frustrating to say the least.
I clear my browser's History/Cache every night, and I've never had this "Web Ring" problem, so that sounds like a good suggestion. Clearing your History needs to be done at least once a week by every user for safe browsing.
