Roundup: Welch Lions Club accepting nominations

WELCH — Discussions are now being held to decide on the second class for the McDowell County Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Welch Lions Club.
Screening committees are currently seeking nominations for the Hall of Fame, which is headquartered at the Sterling Drive-In in Welch.
Nomination forms can be found at the organization’s facebook site at Mighty Welch Lions Club Hall of Fame or contact the proper committee chairmen, including Fred Schrom (War), Leroy Johnson (Gary), Gary Dove (Northfork) and Jerry Horne (Iaeger).
In addition to seven inductees that are planned for induction in May of 2012, the committees are also accepting nominations for coaches, players or support personnel involved in county athletics prior to 1950.
The inaugural Class of 2011 was inducted last summer, and included Tom Beasley, Jennings Boyd, John Brewer, Jr., Tony Colobro, Sid Sure, Gordon Lambert, Mario Poletti, Ergie Smith, Jim Smithberger and Fred Yorke.
