At least a thousand people turned out this morning to see the annual Welch Veterans Day parade and say thank you to the men and women who protect their freedom.
The parade’s grand marshal, Brigadier General David Buckalew, director of the joint staff of the West Virginia National Guard, urged his audience to remember the sacrifices that veterans have made for their country.
Vietnam Veteran Gary Blevins, of Skygusty, said it was good to see such a show of patriotism.
“It makes me proud,” Blevins said. “People everywhere come up to you and say thank you for your service.”
The city of Princeton also held its annual Veterans Day parade this morning on Mercer Street. The Those Who Served Museum will remain open following the parade until 3 p.m.
