On this date, October 3, 1952, Welch High School’s football team, was defeated by the Bluefield Beavers by a score of 14-13. The game was decided by a very questionable call from an official. Welch dominated the game and more than doubled the yards gained from scrimmage. “Dashing” Don Boyd scored a touchdown for the Maroom Wave on a 35 yard run and passed to Frank Marino for the other score.
