Could be playback. The daughter of the murder victim remembers part of the room being lit up because she woke up and saw the chair with the clown on it and that part of the room would have been in darkness had the door not been open . In this episode noises automatically opened the doors and this was important for working out the time that the gunshot rang out and woke up the daughter.
