Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

I can picture Paul Lynde as Daryll the hairdresser from ' Old Fashioned Murder '.

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

Or a version of Murder Smoke And Shadows, where Paul Lynde is the film producer who's secretly a killer called The Hooded Claw.

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

No one could make a sarcastic remark exactly like Paul Lynde. He would just say it from the corner of his mouth in his particular voice and it worked just right. And so many characters talk down to Columbo, he definitely could've played one of them.

Blasts From The Pasts. Posted August 12th, 2005, by me:

"...also in "Uneasy Lies The Crown", Columbo recognized Dick Sargent who played the second Darrin Stephens on "Bewitched". So then how come he didn't recognize David White (who played Larry Tate on "Bewitched") when HE was in the "Identity Crisis" episode playing the head of the CIA? (Or the woman who played the second Gladys Cravitz on "Bewitched" when she was in "Suitable For Framing" as an art gallery attendee???) Or Agnes Moorehead when she played the part of the wife murdered in the original play version of "Prescription: Murder" when Columbo wasn't even being played by Peter Falk?!"

"Jack Cassidy plays the part of a southern gentlemen in an episode of "Bewitched" titled, "Samantha Goes South For A Spell". Samantha, mistaken for her cousin Serena by a jealous witch named Brunhilda, gets sent back to live in the south just after the civil war. Her memory of the present and of Darrin is erased.

Cassidy is very funny as the drastically smooth and charming Rance Butler. He takes one look at Samantha and falls immediately in love with her. Darrin is sent back in time to get Samantha, but Samantha is more interested in Jack Cassidy than Dick York! (Wouldn't you?) Isabel Sanford (Louise Jefferson on "The Jeffersons") plays the part of Butler's maid who helps Samantha. It's a great episode that highlights Cassidy's talents."

I think Paul Lynde could have definitely pulled off an appearance as a murderer on an episode of "Columbo". Just imagining him giving Columbo a side-way glance and sneer makes me smile. I had never seen Dick VanDyke in a dramatic role prior to "Negative Reaction", and he was fantastic.

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

Not Columbo, but almost as good. Peter Falk, Paul Lynde...AND Dean Martin!

Best as I can figure, about 1970, which would have put it before the "regular" episodes, but after Prescription Murder.

Boy were the jokes corny.:relaxed:

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

Walker, Cey, and Sargent played themselves interacting with fictional characters. David White played a fictional character so there was no reason for Columbo to recognize him.

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

Others have done a great job spotting the regulars, but of course both shows were long-running and with many guest players, so there were numerous actors who appeared in both. Another character with multiple appearances in Bewitched was Maurice Evans, who I believe was a snooty butler in Columbo.

David Huddleston (mayor in Columbo Cries Wolf) was in Bewitched 3 times. Vic Tayback was in Bewitched 3 times as a chauffeur, and memorable in Suitable for Framing as bohemian artist Sam Franklin talking about his watch. Arlene Martel was in Bewitched twice, and allegedly in Columbo 3 times, but is more of a trivia question in Columbo because she was in the credits of A Double Exposure as Tanya Baker, but has never been spotted, if I recall, in the final cut.

Then there are, probably among others: Marcia Wallace, Virginia Gregg (most familiar, I'd say, from doing so many Dragnet roles!), Nita Talbot, Julie Newmar, and Barbara Rhoades. Vito Scotti deserves special mention because he appeared in numerous Columbo episodes, and once in Bewitched, but of course it seemed that Vito, for a stretch of years there, appeared at least once in almost very TV show at some point!

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

I know that John Fiedler (Blueprint For Murder) was in at least one.

And I'm guessing that James Milholland (Publish Or Perish) was in at least one, since he was all over TV.

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

Hah, yes John Fiedler was another of those actors who was in "everything"!

Re: 'Bewitched' connection. Can anyone name the actors or actresses?

Columbo and Bewitched overlapped, when Columbo's first season was first aired, it was Bewitched's last.
