There are so many funny things that Columbo says that make you go "Huh?"
For instance:
Swan Song. "My ears pop in an elevator. As a matter of fact i don't even like being this tall"
Troubled Waters. "Captain, can you get a mattress up here?"
Forgotten Lady. "Here's my badge. Go down to the pistol range and qualify for me. Here's $5 bucks for your trouble. I can't hit the target give me a break."
Try and Catch Me. (Referring to "Dog"). "He loves the ocean; makes him all frisky"
This is just a small sample. Post a few of your favorites; I'm sure there are many more.
One funny thing about that line is the way you kind of wonder about it. For someone who doesn't like them "that way," he definitely get tongue-tied when Jessica answered the door dressed the way she did.
I always get a laugh out of the scene in Columbo Goes to College when he's interviewing Dominic Doyle. Columbo says that he's from homicide and Doyle replies "I haven't done one of them lately you know?"
The actor Sandy Kenyon and that look he gives make it even funnier than it would be without him.
Grants post made me realize that we could have a whole thread on Columbo's car just by itself. For instance, in A Friend in Deed. when he goes to see Charlie Shoop that interaction is hilarious. Shoop wants to know if there's 20 or 30,000 miles on the car. And then at the end of the conversation, he said that he would give him $200 for it in a trade. Hilarious stuff
